About Us

In Chapel Place behind the Church of King Charles the Martyr is Hall's Bookshop - a survivor of a once flourishing breed of shops - the antiquarian bookseller. It may not look grand but it is in fact a treasure house.

Like all good provincial bookshops the range of books reflects our customers' interests. Indeed, for over a hundred years we have been offering a knowledgeable and friendly service to our customers and our many international visitors.

To learn more of our early history:
"Harry Pratley, A Bookseller Remembers" can be purchased from the bookshop.
Harry was apprenticed aged 14 to Mr Hall, going on to buy Hall's Bookshop and eventually becoming President of the Antiquarian Booksellers Association.
